LED/LCD Display systems
RSL offer a wide range of electronic passenger information solutions with our software capable of driving both LED and LCD screen technology. There are various advantages and disadvantages for LCD/LED technologies and depending on the intended screen location one may be more appropriate than the other. RSL will advise this in the site survey aspect of a project.
Both LED and LCD display screens are perfect for displaying scheduled departure/arrival and real time travel information, with a function enabling custom messages to
be displayed when required.
These high brightness displays offer 'to the minute' arrival and departure information in an easy to view format and offer significant accuracy benefits over alternative paper based methods.
Each of these screen types typically display a single colour, if you require a display system which includes a variety of colours see our 'large screens' section on the left or click here.
LED Displays
An LED display works by outputting light that surpasses the brightness of any light shining onto it, making it sunlight viewable and ideal for most locations.
There are many different sizes and configurations based up on character height (which effects viewable distance) the string of characters (how many characters will be needed on each line) and how many rows of characters there will need to be. RSL displays are made to order with a wide range of customisable options available. All unit mounting is specific to the job, ensuring optimum positioning.
LED’s are generally less expensive to buy and maintain, as the higher quality LCD displays require high brightness backlighting (fluorescent tubes which will need replacing periodically.)
LCD Displays
LCD displays work on a principle called transflective lighting - where the backlighting adds to any ambient light falling on the face of the module. This reflects any light back, cancelling out any possibility of a diminished viewing angle which can be present in LEDs.
Effectively LCD’s and LED’s achieve the same results, but LCD’s do so in a more effective manner, at a slightly higher cost. As with LED signs, colour options on the casing and graphical printing to clients’ specifications are all common options on a display unit.
There are many options available for all our display systems in terms of support structures; custom built poles, roof supports, wall brackets, protective housings and architectural constructions are all available options.
